Several important events are on the horizon which involve our parents we are getting out this special issue of the Courier to bring them to your attention.
(1) Our Troop Committee meeting set for January 9th is a very important one, as this is just two months before our auction. Now everyone loves our auction because it pays such a large amount of the expense that parents normally bear (full camp fees, overnight camping fees, special events, to name a few) so therefore everyone should love to help out. Now Ken Schmucker and Kevin Houston have volunteered to run the auction this year - and believe us, it is a lot of work - but they need our help if it is to be successful. So start being helpful now by attending our Troop Committee meeting and give them the support they must have.
(2) The enclosed letter from our Mothers Club will tell you all about our annual Pot Luck Dinner. Needless to say, the food is fabulous. They too need your prompt response as they have a lot of planning to do - so let's help them out by returning to them the required information without delay.
(3) We have a cabin "campout" scheduled for the weekend of Jan 18-20. If it follows the usual script there will be more boys than beds, so if your scout is low on merit points he will probably be sleeping on the floor People keep asking: "How can you give them five (5) great meals for the measly sum of Six Dollars ($6.00)????? You don't want to know.
(4) Scout Sunday is February 10th. We have 5 scouts making the rank of Eagle Scout (Jim A., Eric B., Eric M., Garrick S. and Jim L.). This is a remarkable group of boys, with one exception, and it will be a great day for them. The Service will be conducted by church members who are or were in the scout troop, so it should be different. In addition to the Eagle awards, Terri Baumgartner will also be issuing the religious medals earned by boys in our troop during the past year.
Other than honoring our boys, there are two good reasons why you should be in attendance at this special service - first, it will be a good thing for your scout (or scouts) to see the Eagle ceremony - it will inspire him (them) in his (their) own advancement, and secondly, Art and Cheryl, along with Ken Doody, will serve their remarkable Pancake breakfast at a ridiculously low charge - hours of service from 8:30 to 10:30 AM. (Russ taught Ken how to make pancakes, but claims no relationship to either Cheryl or Art, who can not blame him for anything.
This Courier will of necessity be brief, since we must get it to Joan Moody so she can run it for us. Joan is going on a 10 day vacation in the South Seas. Did you know that Joan has been doing our copying for us these past two years or so, always with a jolly good smile?
Read this out loud: JOAN MOODY IS A DARN SWELL GIRL!
Thank You!
