Our next Troop Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, October 8th. In addition to our regular business, we will also be discussing new camping areas as an alternative to Yorkville. Doug and Russ will be visiting some of them and will have a report. We ask our Committe folks to study page 18 of the current "Scouter" - it has some of the items this page contains. Russ will also bring up the possible renewal of the Father/Son campouts we had back in the 60's..
We now have new Patrol Leaders in place for the coming year: Morgan S. will lead the Tigers, Peter U. the BUffalos, and Anthony G. the Pioneers. The Bears were a problem because we had Brendon H. next in line for leadership, but he is involved in sports at school that both he and Russ felt that he could not do the post justice. But he needs a leadership spot if he is to qualify for Eagle! So this is how it worked out: Brendon will now be our Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (replacing Dave O.) and no other than our own beloved Kevin M. will lead the Bears. The retired leaders (Ed S., Matt K., Jeff K., and Mike S.) did a great job - but there is a feelling our new bunch will equqal if not better what they did..
Anthony G., Matt K., Kevin M., and Morgan S. will all be going for Life rank now, and they will need the FAMILY LIFE merit badge. We want to get a good start on this, as it takes at least 3 months to complete. Russ wants to meed with these 4 scouts and one of their parents so that we can all be aware of what is involved here, so will the parents of these boys get together and pick a meeting night when we can go over this together?.
For the Last Year Russ has been mentioning havin gsome sessions with our older boys and giving them some tips on study methods which might help them. After some thought, this is what he offers: We will have a group (no less than 3, no more than 6) which will meet on Sunday nights from 7 - 9 pm and discuss not only study methods, but how to read a difficult passage, how to grasp and appreciate poetry, and do something about history, geography, spelling, and a few of those other subjects which seem to be glossed over today in school. Scouts who are interested should let Russ know. The details will be worked out..
Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge will be on November 15th and 22nd.
We have a campout at Yorkville coming up on October 17th to 10th. The weather will be perfect. Here's a chance for our new Patrol Leaders to strut their stuff!
Little Things That Mean a Lot: Stacey and Steve Prus have had their baby, a little girl named Charlotte! She was born September 12th and all are doing well..............Ashlin and Mike are also expecting soon.................our Assistant Scoutmasters are sure doing their share to keep up the population. Normally this would bode well for our scout troop, but most of them keep on having girls.........Doug Sanders led a troop of hardy fishermen up to Canada (the group included Jim Moody and Vic Stich). Doug reports that they had great luck. Between the 9 of them they caught 5 northern that measured a good 12 inches, 7 walleye that were at least 11 inches long, and then a bounch of small ones. Bob Drakert caught the largest Northern (12 1/2 inches) and Brian Sanders hooked the biggest walleye (11 3/4 inches). They also caught 3 perch and a sunfish. Doug caught the flu.
Love ya.......
