Our last Troop Committee meeting for the scout year will be held on Wednesday, May 12th, starting at 9:00 pm. Plans for Summer Camp, the approaching "Welcome to Spring" campout and several other items will be on the agenda. Arrangements will also be made for our coming Board of Review.
Our Welcome to Spring Campout will be on the weekend of May 12-14,
and there is not the slightest doubt that we will enjoy perfect weather. Saturday
morning will be devoted to finishing up required advancement for 2nd and 1st
class scouts, (principally nature trips to identify trees and plants), plus
completing the requirements for the Physical Fitness merit badge. We hope to
have a softball game between the O'Byrne and Bujewski factions in the afternoon.Sukiaki
will be on the menu for Saturday night supper. We hope that the Cub Scouts will
join us for our campfire that evening. This campout will be distinguished by
the presence of Ed Kowynia, the aging shortstop of the Brewers, and father
of two of our finest scouts, who will be most welcome provided he stays at least
100 yards away from his sons ant all times and doesn't push the envelope. We
know he can do it if he tries real hard. (Click
for permission slip).
This is to remind the boys that they must complete their advancement by May 28th when we have our final Board of Review. See the April Courier for what is needed by each boy. Don't forget: NO advancement, NO camp, NO refund. Tempus Fugit.
Little Things That Mean a Lot: Since the last Courier we have registered three new scouts: eric E, Jason S, and Danny S. Jason will be a Poineer and both Eric and Danny will enter the Tigers.......Right now the Poineers have a sizeable lead in the Merit Race but Las Vegas Night is coming up and anything can happen - like last year, when the Tigers played it too close to the vest and lost their lead.....................We have a new Assistant Scoutmaster named Brian Smart. Brian turned 18 last March and will remain with us until registration time next year. Garrick Scheer will be 18 early this summer and will become a leader at that time. Both boys will go to camp with us and not only will not have to make advancement, but get to eat the Rib Dinner on Wednesday night while the scouts are down on the beach eating heaven knows what.......The Information Sheet on Summer Camp is now in the works and you will be getting it soon. Pretty much the same as last year except that we will be leaving early Saturday morning instead of at midnight, and will travel during the day rather than at night. This should be a lot easier on everyone.........We have 10 scouts wishing to take the Book Binding merit badge. This is a very practical thing to learn, and a clever scout can put his learning to a lot of good uses. It is getting late in the Scout year neow and if the boys are going to complete the badge they are going to have to get on with it. So Russ will have 2 sessions with 5 boys each. They will both be Sunday night at his house (Sunday, May 9th - the first group of 5 will meet from 6:30 - 8:00 pm, and the second group of 5 will meet from 8:00 - 9:30 pm). By then the Mother's Day celebrations should be over. We must do it this Sunday, becuse on the next Sunday we will be on the campout....................We must bring this to an early close because Joan Moody, that wonderful lady who prints the Courier for us, has a very busy day and we have to get it to her early.
So for this reason, there will be a lot of empty space at the bottom ot his issue.
Have a nice summer, everyone.
