Our final Troop Committee meeting for this scout year will be this Wednesday, May 14 at 8:00 pm. One of the items on our agenda will be the rumored sale of our Scout camp at Yorkville and the effect it would have on our program. Your attendance is invited..
Our Welcome to Spring campout at Yrokville will be the week end of May 16-18. The weather will be absolutely gorgeous. This campout is always special as it gives us a chance to see the world the way God meant us to see it...trees in early leaf, flowers, birds, bugs. We will be cooking Sukiaki for diinner! Whee!!! Try and make it guys, because this may be the last time we will see old campsite #28 if the people downtown have their way. Scouts going for 1st and 2nd Class will have their chance to finish up their tree and plant I.D., and maybe we will have another classic softball game between the Mike Bujewski team and the Francis O'Byrne team.
A Lot of Little Things that Sometimes You Do Not Se on the 10 O'Clock News: Dave Benages, an old Eagle Scout, has been attending our Troop Committee meetings in place of Bob Schaefer, who has been tied up in cabinet meetings. He reports to the sponsoring institution on our doings, and his interest is very much appreciated..... Speaking of appreciation, Kathy Kosovich has volunteered to sew neckerchiefs for us. Hey girls, how about 2 or 3 more of you giving her a hand. Delores Spread is getting more material so what about an old fashioned sweing bee???.................We have 125 or so Eagle Scouts in our troop, but only about 15 of our boys have earned our Golden Circle. The last one to do it was Don Baumgartner about 5 years ago. Well, it looks now that the medal will be given out again soon.....Garrick S. has 46 nights camping out, while Jeff C. has 45, Brian M. 42, Colin S. 42, and Jeff K. 30. Neither Jeff or COlin have ever missed a hike......and neither have Morgan S. or Kevin M.............Doug and Anne Sanders report that the new updated Song Book will be available soon for the rediculouslu cheap price of $1.50.......it features new lyrics to "Mountain Dew", and cover such people as Uncle Doug, Uncle Luke, Uncle Brian and Uncle Mark. There are only 25 copies or so, and when they are gone - they are gone....so get yours early, boys.....Scouts taking the Reading Merit Badge should have finished "Life On The Mississippi" and "Roughing It" by now. We will be discussing those two books in the mighty near future - they we shall read and finish "Huckleberry Finn" by the end of the month.....Scouts who are not current on this will not get the badge.....We are happy to report that we had just glorious weather on the April campout, and that 5 boys passed their Cooking Merit Badge, Jeff K., Brendon H., Paul R., Ed S., and Peter U. Their Pepper Steak was pretty good, their apple pies were excellent.....Advancement for summer camp has been good for the most part, but we have some boys who ahve a lot to do. Don't forget that the deadline is at the end of this month and if you do not make it you not only do not go to camp, but you lose the money that you have paid - don't let this happen.....Scouts who are not going to camp with us are still expected to earn their advancement - if they are prepared to advance to Eagle, Russ will not sign their papers until they do.....Brian M. is now our Senior Patrol Leader and is doing a good job. He sure puts a lot of zip into his call to "attention!!!"......Doug and Ann Sanders, with Laura Matos, are working with a group of our older scouts on the American Heritage merit badge........By the way, Anne Sanders is finishing up her degree at Northeastern University and drew straight A's this past summer. Congratulations! Doug took her to McDonald's to celebrate.....Welcome Bryan K. and Josh R. who have just joined our troop. Brian is a distant cousin to Mark K. and Josh is the brother of our beloved Doug. All for now....
