Our first meeting of the new year will be Thursday, September 22nd. We put it back because the Church is having it's Fall rummage sale, and it is crowded and hot in the small room on the second floor.
There will be no Troop committee meeting in September. Their first meeting will be in October. Members will be notified of the date that Doug Sanders selects. Delores Spread has had her surgery and Bonnie says that all went well. She will probably return to Chicago sometime in October and we all hope that she will be "raring to go". In the meantime, Bonnie will tend to the Mother's Club duties.
Our annual Court of Honor will be held on Thursday, September 29th. As usual, there will be colored slides of our trip to Colorado, and all kinds of awards and honors will be showered on our boys. Francis O'Byrne will be in charge, but good old Russ will be sure to give a speech.
Our first campout of the year will be to McQueen on October 14-16. It will be a warm, sunny weekend, with delightful temperatures during the day and great sleeping at night. As usual, the campout will feature great cooking, some advancement, and touch football.
As of this moment we have no information from Jim Broccolino on the Fall 20 mile hike. If he gets the permission slips over before noon tomorrow, we'll enclose them with this Courier.
NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT !!!! At the final meeting last May it was absolute chaos as every boy in the troop waited until the very last moment to complete his advancement. Your dear scoutmaster is just simply unable to handle this last minute rush with everyone demanding his time and attention. It is just too much. In addition, the Board of Review is forced to rush the boys through instead of giving the boys the time and attention they deserve. Then, too, some boys have other commitments and can not be there.
There is absolutely no reason why their advancement can not be completed earlier. There is plenty of time to finish up those badges which require 90 days to complete.
SO: We are moving up the date on which advancement must be completed for summer camp. That date is MARCH 3rd - Parent's Night.
The only exception will be for those boys going for 2nd and 1st Class who may need to pass certain outdoor requirements on the April and May campouts.
A little bit of This & That: We are happy to announce that Kevin Houston has volunteered to head our auction again this year.....he will be asking for a couple of assistants.........We are also happy to tell you that Steve Bujewski will be free to attend and help out at a lot more meetings this year........we are working on a booklet that extolls the virtues of our troop that will receive selected distribution. Mike Bujewski is the editor.....Our last message is to Delores Spread - Get well soon, sweetheart! We miss you!
