Our next Troop Committee meetings are April 11th and May 9th. The principal item of interest will be the disposition of our Auction proceeds and consideration in the matter of participation of the current Scout Financial Drive.
Our two Auction Chairmen, Dr. Steve Bujewski and Ken Schmucker, passed all records with our March auction. Final figures from Anne Sanders show that the auction was very successful! Both Steve and Ken did a great job, and what they did is much appreciated. Our Mothers Club reports that they made a profit selling their baked goods and refreshments. While this is welcome, it was somewhat of a surprise and disappointment to the mothers, since we had the largest attendance ever and sold more than ever, our net profit was no greater than last year.
We have two campouts coming up, the weekend of April 20-22 and of May 18-20. This is where the boys going for 2nd class and 1st class have a chance to pass their outdoor requirements, so attendance is advisable. The April hike will be our "advancement" hike, while the one in May will be mostly devoted to welcoming spring, both will have plenty of softball and advancement.
Thoughts to carry with you throughout the day: Brian S. has now passed the magical age of 18 and is enrolled as a Scoutmaster in training......Doug Sanders is handling the Colorado end of our trip this summer, Francis O'Byrne is taking care of the Wild Rafting trip and horseback riding, while Jim Broccolino is assisting Russ in handling the choo-choo train details....Speaking of our Jim Broccolino, he tells us that he has been successful in getting us a $250.00 donation from the Great Northern Trust Company, where he works and is a vice-president in training. Thanks a lot, Jim......The Mothers Club has been good to the troop again, buying carrying bags for our Dutch Ovens as well as lid lifters, and has also purchased a new cabinet for our gear. The carrying bags will serve to protect the ovens, and the lid lifters are great safety items, since lifting those hot, heavy lids can be a bit hairy......Jim Moody, Vic Stich, Cal Benderr and Don Baumgartner Jr. will join Doug, Francis, Russ and Jim as adult leaders in our trip to Colorado...... They have all been to summer camp with us before and give us a pretty good group of leaders......In view of Kyle K.'s absence, Doug R. has taken over as Patrol Leader of the Tigers and is doing a good job...... We have been keeping the boys posted on their advancement needs, and while most of the scouts have been doing great, there are a couple on the endangered species list - to wit: Mike S. needs a lot of stuff, mostly outdoor, so it would be wise for him to make the next two campouts, Jeff K. needs a 20 mile hike, Bill C. needs 3 merit badges...Mark P. needs 2 badges, Jim L. needs 3 badges, and both Mike S. and Kyle K. need a lot of stuff.......Any parent who wants to know the score can meet with Russ, Doug, Jim or Francis after a scout meeting and they will be glad to talk with you . NOW IS THE TIME TO GET ON THIS STUFF, BECAUSE AS WE GET CLOSER TO MAY 25 (the advancement deadline) your leaders will be busy getting ready for camp and will not have time to spend with you. Tempus fugit.
